- Nina Capone began her passion for music at an early age. A child prodigy, daughter of a talented vocalist and stepdaughter of the legendary Guitar player Ted Cohen of ‘Fat Larry’s Band’ who had two hits in the UK titled ‘Center City and Boogie Town’. In 1991 she began touring with Loni Gamble former guitar player for the “Stylistics” and 1984 recipient of two top Canadian Dance Music Awards who worked closely with Nina to hone her craft. Nina Capone formally known as Lay-D-Bug grew to local fame throughout the state of Pennsylvania, by performing at venues such as the Annual Unity Day Concert and the Pennsylvania prison tour with the band Sound Cheque.
Nina continued to tour and perform her popular hit ‘Lay-D-Bugs in the House’ which she wrote and co-produced with a live band. Nina was given the opportunity to create a public service announcement sponsored be the city of Williamsport Pennsylvania entitled ‘We are the young’ to empower the youth to stay drug free, from this a video was shot and aired on local cable stations for over a year. This gained Nina so much attention that in 1993 she was requested to be the opening act for the legendary ‘Temptations’.
In addition, here we are years later Nina Capone is taking the world by storm. With a large Internet fan base on the popular music sites myspace.com and Isound.com Nina Capone went from local to worldwide. Performing at numerous events such as ‘The Annual Greek Picnic’ The Mayor’s office Annual Youth Expo’ Nice towns Annual Give back, and so much more. Nina has appeared on local radio stations and not to mention featured spots of Urban X-pressions, and several music videos. Realizing that it would take more than just brief cameos at events to spotlight her skills Nina began creating and hosting showcases that would feature unsigned local talent with herself as a headliner. This landed Nina an official celebrity status that included invites and hosting jobs at major industry events such as the Terrell Owens Birthday Bash event held at the Knowlton Mansion in 2004.
Nina has received much clout because of her sharp lyrics and luminous performance as well as her ability to sing just as well as she raps. Nina has shared the stage and runways with such artist as DefJam/G-Unit Freeway, Def Jams Peedi Peedi, Ms Jade, Eve, Kindred, and Trina Miami’s Diamond Princess. Nina Has one independent release titled ‘Damn Near Naked’ that included the hit single ‘Thugs Wife’ which received great reviews and a large amount of publicity for its hard core yet sexy lyrical content.
Nina continues to work hard to break the artist mold by completing projects such as the remake of ‘Shake ya groove thing’ along side R&B legends ‘Peaches and Herb’ and producer Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo. You can also find Nina featured the works of DJ Tayroc of the ‘Super friends ‘ in Atlanta, GA, The Steel City Massacre produced by DJ Cadillac, and several collaborations with the legendary producer ‘Sam Sneed’ formerly of ‘Death row records’. Nina is currently busy working on her up and coming R&B project titled “In due time”, her Hip Hop project titled “Camouflaged”, as well as her book of poetry titled “ From my urban heart. Nina has also inked a deal as a spokes model for an upcoming international clothing company that’s due to launch nationwide in April 2007. Nina will be working closely with the designers to implement her own personal touches in the clothing and footwear that will be sold.
You can catch Nina performing live at many events in 2007 starting in February where she will share the stage with Def Poetry Jams “Black Ice” and her Four piece band “Side By Sol”.
Busy making music, busy making history. Nina Capone is prepared to enter the industry through the back door where no one will see her coming.
