A few years ago, I remember devising a strategy to avoid becoming a victim of what the media presented as an imminent bird flu epidemic. My family owns a relatively secluded cabin in the Pocono mountains and I decided I would travel there and stay isolated for as long as necessary to survive this new plague. As usual, the media’s bird flu hype turned out to be much more hype than bird flu, and my plan wasn’t necessary (although I still keep it on file, just in case).
Historically, major epidemic…

Good Afternoon Everyone..I just had the viewing pleasure of the latest video blog by Charles Gregory. Many thoughts ran thru my head as I was viewing it. Firstly, The Corrective Rape issue, I wish I could say that this is new and never been done, but it has happened for years. If any of you watched "The Women of Brewster Place", -if you remember towards the end when the lesbian (played by Lonette McGee) was raped by the neighborhood thug, he told her when I am thru with you, you won't even look…

Ladies and gentlemen....we finally have a fashionista First Lady! She's classic poetry in motion, all the while holding down her family. Yes, we congratulate President Obama for being the change that MLK once dreamed of and for his history-making inauguration that illuminated D.C. with the power of 2.5 million strong (we love you Barack!). We've got to give Michelle Obama her props though! Black women across the world can finally look to a First Lady with unprecedented pride and joy. A black wom…

WASHINGTON – The Senate on Monday voted unanimously to postpone the upcoming transition from analog to digital television broadcasting by four months to June 12 — setting the stage for Congress to pass the proposal as early as Tuesday.
Monday's Senate vote is a big victory for the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress, who have been pushing for a delay amid growing concerns that too many Americans won't be ready for the currently scheduled Feb. 17 changeover.
The Nielsen Co. estimates t…

Hello Everyone, My name is Christopher Weaver and I am a dear friend of Charles Gregory and I also do public relations and marketing for many clients in the Delaware Valley and beyond. Many of my heterosexual male counterparts often ask me, why can't I dress nice and not be labeled as gay?.. Gay people are often stereotyped in the categorires for art, fashion, music and hair. Does this mean that all gay people can do hair, Hell no..lol..Alot of them can't dress either, but a larger part of them c…

Ideally, we desire a fair society. One that is just, true, and equal. I love the idea of living in a country that allows me as a journalist to express myself in any way I wish to.
The recent Obama victory has instilled in me a new hope, as it has for millions of Americans. We are living in history and the state of our union I believe was a catalyst for the change that has finally come. YES WE DID!!! But we must continue to embrace democracy and be politically active even when it's not election…

Is it possible that the greatest civilizations of ancient times did not exist in the fertile crescent of the Middle East as has been taught in primary, secondary, and post-secondary classrooms the world over? This is the question addressed by journalist Charles C. Mann in his book,
1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus. In answering this question, Mann explores what he believes are the three main focal points of the new findings in Native American history: Indian demograph…

A concise survey of racism’s development since the Middle Ages is the topic of historian George M. Fredrickson’s book,
Racism: A Short History. While the descriptor, short, is certainly apropos; the book covers over seven hundred years of history in scarcely one hundred and fifty pages; it is densely packed with information and weighty analysis. Fredrickson’s dual purpose in writing this book was to identify the historical roots of Western racist ideologies and to provide a comparative an…

A little over a year ago, I decided to cut all land-dwelling meat out of my diet. I still eat fish and animal products such as milk and eggs--although I do try to drink soy milk as often as possible. I made this decision for two reasons, one primary and one secondary. The secondary reason has to do with all of the little "extras" that have been appearing in our meat and animal products over the past several decades. In order to continue meeting the demand for higher quantities and cheaper produc…

I wanted to share a post that one of the Daily Timez own, has felt the need to passionately express. We all know by now, Sarah Palin is the VP nominee to run with Senator McCain. MERON; the writer of this blog post took his time to eloquently point out a few issues that he had a problem with. As, I wanted to make sure this was a site open to everyone with no political affiliation, I still hold that to be the case. However, I have to admit I totally agree with the contentions MERON has made a…

Philadelphia, PA- This week on Young Hip & Chic, Tweety Elitou pays homage to the great women of yesterday that made class and beauty what it is today.
On the most recent webisode, the vintage look is in the spotlight. “This show was very special to me,” says Tweety Elitou. “Not only am I a big fan of the vintage style but it was also personal because it made me think of my great-grandmother and the beautiful women of her day.”
The beautiful women that Tweety refers to are Josephine Baker,…
